Technician services for lifestyle blocks
As a rural farm and companion animal vet clinic, our staff are qualified to help you maintain and improve any of your animal's health needs. Below are some of the services we offer all year round.
Calving's & lambing's etc
We are available to assist with difficult births of livestock / large animals.
Desexing
Young or older animals
Disbudding
(this is taking the horn buds of young animals before they grow)
As of October 2019, updated animal welfare regulations now prevent untrained persons from performing disbudding. GVS sedate all animals for disbudding, whilst providing concurrent local anaesthesia. Studies have shown that recovery post-disbudding is greatly improved when coupled with sedation; stress is limited and animals have improved growth rates! Calves generally feel the effects of sedation for 1-2 hours, so clients often take the opportunity to ear tag, DNA test, and do other things during this time.
Drenching
Drenching animals is important! these are used to kill internal parasites (worms) inside your animals. Our team can help you by carrying out this task to the highest standard.
We can also give advice on which drenches to use. There are a range of drench options available for animals. Understanding how and when we use them is important.
Emergencies
We offer services for emergency care for livestock on your property 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Emergency call-out fees apply for public holidays, weekends and between 430 pm and 8:00 am on weekdays.
Companion animals are referred to Waikato After Hours Veterinary Hospital https://wavh.co.nz/

Lameness
We treat lame animals. But Like most things, prevention is always better than a cure. Here are some contributing factors for lameness on farm that may be prevented;
Tight corners in the raceways or sheds
Pushing animals too hard
Large gravel on the race
Excessive mud that softens the hoof
Nutrition issues
Ultrasound Scanning for Pregnancy
Each GVS team member has been trained by principle vet, Andrew Gore, in pregnancy scanning. We have an excellent degree of precision and can provide accurate, dated results in a timely manner.
Acquiring accurate pregnancy data is an integral part of identifying areas for improvement in your herd reproductive program.
Veterinary certificates
In certain cases, a veterinary certificate can be issued, which is valid for 7 days and cannot be predated.
These are often used for transportation & sales
Vaccinations
Keeping all classes of stock vaccinated is an important step in ensuring your preventative health program remains up to date. Our team can help you by carrying out this task to the highest standard.
We can also give advice on which vaccinations and injectable supplements should be added to your annual program to keep your overall production at its highest.
